Charles Thomas "Charlie" Cornell was born on March 18, 1939 in Whitestone, Long Island.  He had the blessing of sharing his birthday with his mother.   The youngest of three children born to Richard and Ruth Cornell, Charlie joined Mary (Deceased) and Anita (Paul Gorman).
Charlie had a peaceful disposition and cared greatly for others. His love of birds as they take flight lead him to an early career in the airline industry, where he worked for fifteen years.
He also worked toward and received his Pilots license, piloting his first "Solo" flight in a small craft on March 31, 1967.
His instructor was Dale Karl.   Dale went on to introduce his
kid sister, Sherry to Charlie in 1968.   Charlie was the Station Manager for Eastern Airlines at that time.
Charlie and Sherry were married on February 8, 1969 in Milford, Connecticut.  When they returned from their Hawaiian Honeymoon, they moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming where the Karl family had purchased a KOA Campground.   Charlie became a Police Officer and worked for the Cheyenne Police Department for thirteen years.
In 1983 the Cornell family; Charlie, Sherry, Charles Jr. (Tomm) and Karla moved to Florida.  Charlie took up Real Estate and practiced for seven years.  Charlie and Sherry traveled to many places such as Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Egypt, Italy…and back to Hawaii in 2006.
Charlie is survived by his wife Sherry, son Tomm (Kymberli) Cornell, daughter Karla (Jason) Crawford, sister Anita (Paul) Gorman, brother's-in-law Dale (Anita) Karl and Bill (Alice) Karl, his Uncle King and Aunt Marion Cornell, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a grandbaby due in early 2008 to Karla and Jason Crawford.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Ruth Cornell, and his sister, Mary.
In lieu of flowers and gravesite visits, Charlie requested that a donation be made in his name to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.   You can donate on line at or send the donation to:
